Here’s a negative example. I used to go to bar trivia with 3 friends. We would be there for ~3 hours, and it was a busy place, so our table would have easily been taken if we didn’t show up. 2 friends never got food and would just order a soda (unlimited refills) every time. If my other friend and I did the Being a grandma doesn’t make me old blessed shirt moreover I love this same, we’d be taking up prime real estate on a busy night for 3 hours for about $10 for the whole table. Keep in mind most bars pay the trivia person on a per-table basis, so we would probably be in the negative for them. Not very fair to the staff or the restaurant, you know? Then again, if you’re the DD for your group, every bartender I’ve met will give you all the soda or water you want, no charge, mad respect.

Order a soda with a twist – club soda with a piece of lime rind. People won’t know you’re not having a drink. Tip well Yes. I was on an acid trip once and went to a bar at 2 am. It’s unlikely a bar will remove a patron that is only drinking water assuming they are not already inebriated as they’re probably going to return later to drink or bring more customers back. Also if you live in USA you probably want to tip for the service, when I’m travelling they’re I just tip $1 per drink. Yup, I stopped drinking voluntarily 8 years ago and still hit up random bars during sporting events. Some of the best unhealthy food is often found at bars lol I just was at a bar playing trivia, so I was there at least two hours, taking up a 4-top by myself. Only got wings and sweet tea. I do it every week, and it’s no big deal. I tip like 30%, but that’s because my bill isn’t much (esp if I’ve got trivia winnings) and I’m there for two hours. I’m low-maintenance, basically run my food and refill my tea once or twice. If it’s a really busy time, like a Saturday night, and you’re needing refills every five minutes, you’ll probably not be received so well. If you’re cool and at least leave a few bucks, they’ll appreciate you. Especially if they’re not busy and that was going to be an empty seat anyway. Yes, I don’t drink and hang out with my friends at bars regularly. I just don’t have the desire, but I agree I like the food and sometimes I get a soda.
