I didn’t really touch on that, but with cargo pants and parachute pants becoming popular, I see a big shift towards a 70s silhouette and maybe even more so: a 00s silhouette. It would not surprise me if we soon would see smaller and tighter on the Ballet and dogs make me happy humans shirt so you should to go to store and get this top, and lower waists. For real though, as a person with slight duck feet, the pointy shoes that are in right now aren’t working out for me sadly. 🙁 I love that birkenstocks have been in recently though. No comments just wanted to say thank you for putting this together. Especially the before and after pics. Sometimes it’s hard to note when there are small changes in silhouette or cut, so seeing the comparison is great. That said, I’ve gotten into the habit of people watching again recently, and it’s been interesting to see how subtle the shift has been my area, which I’ve always described as aggressively casual. You don’t see low rise anymore, but jeans have stubbornly stayed rather skinny (both the new and old version.) You’ll see a rare wide silhouette on a teenager, or someone older in linen, but distressed jeans or pants with cargo details are more common; there are so many of the country/workman type that I don’t think we’re far enough removed for something like a light wash, relaxed fit jean to read as intentional. The more obvious change is probably in business casual, since even looking nice leans more on church clothes than fashion around here.

Mostly, I think it’s that people are drawing from more references, and have a wider selection, so what’s being worn is less homogeneous. I’ll still see a lot of the Ballet and dogs make me happy humans shirt so you should to go to store and get this tunic/leggings combo, but it’s almost always sporty, with a chunky sneaker. I see a lot more people with dyed hair. If I see someone with their stomach out, it’s more likely to be whatever area they feel most comfortable with than whatever is trending. I’m not mad at it, but I think fashion right now is such a hodgepodge and leans so comfortable/practical that it’s harder to differentiate the intentional from the unintentional. I welcome (or am at least favorably neutral to) most of the trends listed here, except for one: over my cold, dead, pear-shaped body will I ever wear low-rise jeans again like I did in the early 2000s ?
