Portland did something like this and it seemed promising. Seemed like various things have undermined the Awesome most Of Us Have Two Lives The Life We Live And The Unlived Life We Wish We Had T-Shirt Also,I will get this program somewhat. A combination of not enough resources thrown behind the street response team, certain other politics, and some would say measure 110. Who would have thought those pesky libs were right about taking responsibilities from cops that cops shouldn’t be handling. Im conservative/libertarian and I think it’s a great idea and would like to see it implemented in more areas. Police are like a hammer and all they see are nails. Yeah, I really wish there was a big push towards trying to sell people on this pitch. “Do you love cops, and want them to work less long hours handling crises that aren’t in their job description? Do you hate cops, and want to avoid police arresting people to avoid dealing with them? Either way, it’s about time we stop trying to solve every nail in the city with the hammer of police. Vote for the Specialized Emergency Services bill today!”

I am a cop and I want this program fucking everywhere. I have more than a bit of training on how to handle mental health crises, but compared to an actual professional? I want the Awesome most Of Us Have Two Lives The Life We Live And The Unlived Life We Wish We Had T-Shirt Also,I will get this professional handling it. I’m also limited by the fact that I work for a very small department, with 3 to 4 officers on the road at any given time (or less when we’re short-staffed, which is often), in a small jurisdiction (college campus). Driving someone to any kind of facility puts me a long way from home base, and leaves the other officers running light. I was looking into joining a crisis team in my local area… until I looked into what you need to do, the training they give you, the hours you need to be available, and the $0 they pay you for it. So, they’ve decided important things cops used to do… now go to civilian volunteers… for free.
