Oh, sure, abusing my privileges to cause chaos was my favorite part too. Also this particular sub attracted hate-filled trolls due to the nature of the topic (I’d rather not be too specific), and that bruised my soul a little. Yeah, the endless supply of hate-filled trolls kind of put me off. Sadly we couldn’t just ban IPs or IP ranges the way we used to do in the olden days, so I’m pretty sure we were banning some people repeatedly. I’ve just been reminded of an irc server I frequented banning the whole of Philadelphia to get rid of one particular dude. Depends on if you want to be a good mod or not. You could simply decide to spend 30 mins a day and that’s it, and let everyone else deal with the problem. Or you can spend as much time as necessary going through the mod logs until its done. Or any time in between. I mod for a tiny sub for bitching /laughing about crazy dog owners (you know the type that would spend thousands on a wedding for their beloved dog) and I spend about 20 minutes a week reviewing posts and comments. If it ever got any bigger I’d be out in a heart beat. I took on modding when I was unemployed and have since had a kid so there’s no time to be on top of the mod queue. Auto mod takes care of a lot of people who are hating on dogs themselves or disliking a certain breed. Our sub isn’t for them.

That said the Asplundh baby groot and stitch shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this other mod does way more than me. They’re always quicker than me to review and approve posts and I love them dearly for someone I’ve barely ever communicated with. u/Hydralime is a wonderful human being. I mod like two subs that actually have things happen in them, and they’re both medium sized but dead as fuck so my main responsibilities consist of “remove post from somebody that thought this was a similarly spelled large sub” and “remove post and ban the spam bot reposting three year old content” Always fun when you see mods complaining about being mods. I get that users can be a pain at times but if you don’t like the work that comes with being a mod of a large subreddit, don’t be a mod of a large subreddit. I feel that when it gets to the point that the mods need to point out how difficult it is, it’s usually an exceptional case and I’m not quick to blame the mods at that point.
