Can’t remember which stand up comedian but he had this story of how he once described someone as black and the Animals As Leaders Metalhead Shirt But I will love this person responded “oh I don’t see color” so he said well you know I’m black and the person went “no your not”…love that bit I try not to use skin color to describe people if I don’t have to. I don’t think it was racist, but maybe just a bit tacky. And if someone didn’t know my name and described me as the fat white guy, I’d not be offended nor think about it at all beyond “that’s me”. I always try to avoid it for no good reason. Recently, I was talking to someone at work and described a person as a black man with a certain accent. I immediately felt eyes on me as it came out of my mouth. They quickly averted as everyone realized I said nothing offensive. People are very attuned to these things, and that’s a good thing.

It’s certainly not a good thing when the Animals As Leaders Metalhead Shirt But I will love this word in question is simply “black.” There’s absolutely nothing racist or offensive about the word black. I can’t even think of a way you could use it offensively as it’s a descriptor, not a profanity. Any sane person would it’s not racist. If it’s easier to identify who you’re talking about by using the word “black” then by all means do it! You used two adjectives to describe him. Alone, neither seems particularly problematic. If you had described him as a “big guy” or a “black guy”, I don’t think the other people would have reacted the way they did. The reason it was interpreted as offensive might come from the fact that you used them together, implying that he is big because he’s black. That is racist. You may not have explicitly said or even meant it, but that’s how it sounded. 219 more repliesI think intent matters. I’m white so I have no dog in this fight but, I highly doubt a black man would take issue with being described as black? That would be like me being mad someone called me white. Lol it’s not a bad word or even an insult. It’s just what I am, and I’m not ashamed of it at all, nor should any black person ever be. We are what we are and that’s part of what makes the melting pot beautiful and authentically American… (Assuming this is America ofc).
