Nothing in those notes says that the Ambitchous Adj The Need To Become The Best Bitc T-Shirt moreover I will buy this donations are mandatory and that the child can’t participate or get their artwork without it. Most likely, if the parent says they can’t pay, the donation will be waived. Unless it’s a private school, but then you don’t have to worry about discrimination since anybody who can afford the tuition can afford $4. At my kids school, everyone buys school supplies and it all gets turned in and pooled for everyone. If they charged for that artwork I would be appalled. Or even just the parents that space out and forget to send cash with their kid for the thing. My mom was always forgetting to sign slips for me and stuff (and I would forget to remind her). Are they gonna make the kid take their costume off if they don’t have $1??

There’s also an option to pay extra to cover for another student. As a teacher, I am appalled at how exclusionary these policies are. Don’t punish the children. Sheesh-I give each kid a quarter so they can but some junk from the student store once a month. Their parents likely have the $ but just forgot. And some don’t. Money emergencies, poverty, whatever. Stop excluding kids for parental decisions. This really hit a nerve with me. Then you need to run to replace the shitty members of the school board who approved these measures. It’s the most effective way for the change if they don’t listen to petitioning School boards aren’t the root of the problem. Blame city and state governments that don’t consider education important enough to adequately fund, so teachers need to pay out of pocket for classroom supplies.
