When I was in 5th grade over two decades ago, I had a teacher with a personal policy of “if you don’t bring anything to share at holiday times, you don’t get anything”. First holiday was halloween, teacher checks to see if everyone has a treat to share, kids who do get a paper towel on their desk. Only desks with paper towels are allowed to have candy, which left out me and two other poor kids. Everyone passes out candy until they’re done, skipping us, and of course we’re kids and we’re sad. One kind boy tried to give us some of his own candy and the A Lot Can Happen In 3 Days Easter Religious Vintage Sunset Leopard T-Shirt in addition I really love this teacher punished him! (Had to write lines or some similar bullshit, can’t remember the specifics just how unfair it was) there were kids who made fun of us after for being too poor and greedy to bring anything to share. So Christmas, Easter, I tried hard to get my parents to let me bring something. It didn’t help, because there was no money. our resources were stretched so thin my mom was basically counting how many beans and grain of rice she could make per meal.

Anyway, your comment made me realize, what happened to me is kinda going to get institutionalized at this point. And now I’m fucking pissed for these kids. Yeah this creates so many opportunities to humiliate and shame people who don’t have disposable income and for what? To collect a little more for a fundraiser that affluent parents would probably be happy to donate to anyway? Makes me sad This is $1 per person so at an average elementary school, even if every single parent donated it would still only be like $600 total. They could raise much more with a fundraiser targeting the A Lot Can Happen In 3 Days Easter Religious Vintage Sunset Leopard T-Shirt in addition I really love this community like a jog a thon or read a thon or raffle This! It is ABSOLUTELY discriminatory and possibly borderline illegal. I know, for example, in my state, public schools & booster clubs can ask for all kinds of donations (and for high school sport teams, that can be for thousands of dollars to cover uniforms, travel to games, etc), but they ultimately cannot require parents to pay anything and cannot penalize a student or prevent them from participating if the parents can’t pay. This charging parents money for their kids’ artwork (assuming this is a public school) is not only wrong, I really doubt it’s legal. And I would think the Halloween costume thing is the same because it penalizes the student/prevents participation based on a parent’s ability to pay. Just seriously fucking wrong on all kinds of levels.
