Even doing so under the guise of cracking a joke is a mask over the insecurity and control issues. We would just hang out and shoot the shit, watch TV, etc. My wife has another friend that was a coworker at the time and she was mortified by this. She thought it was totally inappropriate for us to hang out “without supervision.” Your friend and her fiancée likely have a relationship built on trust and respect and this is a non-issue for them, especially if the content of the texts are objectively appropriate.
