I think I was also already burned out, working for a trauma surgeon at a hospital during a pandemic. After a year more of abuse, I just went in early, packed up my stuff and left my keys. That was Feb 2022. I’m much happier now in my new state and new job. I seem to be one of the Alex Singleton American football linebacker for the Denver Broncos T-Shirt besides I will buy this few people in the comments who doesn’t regret accepting a counter-offer. I got a 60% raise to stay and just got promoted again 6 months later. I wasn’t looking to leave my original company, but I was poached by a recruiter on LinkedIn and the new offer was for a higher pay. I’ve always enjoyed my company and my decision to potentially leave was 100% driven by higher comp. It will ultimately come down to if you are trying to leave, or if you just found an interesting opportunity with higher pay.

It’s mostly about more money for me as I am reasonably happy at my current job. I really only started looking to see what I was worth on the Alex Singleton American football linebacker for the Denver Broncos T-Shirt besides I will buy this market and now that I’ve gone through the whole interview process I realize that, outside of the higher pay, there are both pros and cons to staying/leaving. The certainty of the job I’m in now combined with higher pay coming from a counteroffer may be too enticing to pass up. There will always be pros and cons at any job you take, so as long as the pros of staying vastly outweigh the cons, AND the counter offer is good, staying isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all I accepted a counter offer and didn’t regret it. Your mileage may vary though, and it is all very tailored to your situation. I think, in general, you need to be comfortable with what you like and don’t like about your current job. You also need to be comfortable with if/why you were not paid as much as the outside offer. Lastly, you’ve got to know your employer well. Are they the kind of place that will want you to stay and mean it with a counter-offer, or would they be looking to retaliate or replace you as soon as possible?
