declawing is cruelty. if trimming their nails isnt enough for you there are claw covers, which certainly arent perfect but much better than the A Super Sexy Baseball Dad But Here I Am Killing shirt but in fact I love this alternative it’s crazy to get a cat then try to remove a part of them that is so important to them for your own convenience. cats and claws are a package deal. it’s like having a kid, then cutting their fingers off because they colored the wall with a marker Finally, is it cat owners who are performing declawing? Or is it the educated professionals most accountable for determining what is-and-is-not cruel: Doctors of Veterinary Medicine. Do DVMs just live to be cruel to pets? Im saying that animals in the US are legally treated much like simple property and not beings which need laws protecting their welfare. the current laws have standards so low they’re on the ground. so low that mutilating a pet in this way is not illegal until a couple states very recently outlawed it. there is a long way to go

and the A Super Sexy Baseball Dad But Here I Am Killing shirt but in fact I love this the declawing wouldnt happen at all if the owner didnt specifically wanted to. the number of DVMs doing this procedure prior to knowing how bad the pet is effected after was a lot more. but as more has been learned and quality of care and welfare standards has risen in recent years the number of DVM willing to do it has extremely decreased. the mindset for some DVMs still doing it is knowing that cat is going to be entering the shelter system if they dont. or it’s better to have the procedure done by a DVM because if none were willing to, many people take matters into their own hands and the damage after is a lot worse (this is the same dilemma with ear cropping). but even then it’s fewer by the year. they dont teach this procedure in vet school, it’s not some intrinsic thing DVMs must provide to clients. thankfully in a lot of places there is maybe one clinic that offers it, or have to drive to another city to find one. a lot of the few who still offer it and dont have the logic mentioned above of why they still do it are dinosaurs who graduated when jesus walked and have extremely old school welfare standards. aka, not good standards. but would I defend a DVM who still does this or work at that clinic? no, absolutely not.
