Tell your boss you’d rather just have lunch with them- a professional, goodbye lunch with just your boss. Use that time with your boss the 8th Grade RainbowTeacher Hello Eighth Grade T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this way you feel would benefit you most. No it would not be wrong. Your boss did the right thing by asking and not telling you that you’d all be doing lunch. I declined a bigger thing and just did a small slack call (COVID times) with the two other people on my immediate team. I’ve left enough jobs that it’s not a big deal for me to leave anymore. I declined my farewell lunch and have no regrets. My work culture was toxic. Farewell lunches always caused staff grumbling because everyone was pretty much forced to go, use their vacation time, and chip in for a gift and the lunch. I didn’t want to be part of that and simply declined. I left a toxic workplace many years ago, and on my last day, they held a farewell happy hour for me at a restaurant of my choosing. All day, I heard the folks who didn’t like me say shit like “I have better things to do” when people asked if they were going. They made sure I was within earshot. I still went and though I did enjoy the company of those who showed up, I get it. Don’t do it if you don’t feel comfortable.

I had a similar situation working for a municipality. Bunch of toxic 40+ yo people that acted like high school kids. Was there for 2 years and resigned and they wanted to do a party for me since they missed my birthday, somehow, for 2 years in a row… all of our birthdays were on a poster on the 8th Grade RainbowTeacher Hello Eighth Grade T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this office door… I was the only birthday they missed. They did a farewell party and everyone showed up because it excused them from work. I told off every single person I needed to with the truth of course. I got escorted out by the city hall officer. Every single moment that day was worth it. The look on everyone’s faces was shocked. I could care less due to the fact they didn’t care about me and overworked the shit out of me. If you aren’t that kind of person, just say no to it. It ain’t worth it if you don’t get along with many of them. Say your goodbyes to the ones that were cool and maybe exchange contact info if y’all were like that. Ain’t nothing wrong with leaving a place you didn’t like.
