File a complaint with your HR and do it in writing when you talk to your supervisor. Then get a lawyer but don’t tell anyone “Hi boss, I heard a rumor going around the 40 years 1983 2023 Amy Winehouse signature shirt in contrast I will get this office that I’m on leaving this job? I’m not, I enjoy my work and I’m planning on sticking around.” In general you can be fired for good reason, bad reason or no reason. This is America, don’t confuse us with a first world country. But an untrue rumor that I was job hunting lead to a raise and a bunch of very solicitous questions from management about stress and working conditions for me at my current gig… Take the F1 route. Make a press release letting your company know that you are committed and as far as you’re concerned you plan on being there next year. If HR hasn’t or your boss asked you about it, I would not worry. If you work for a small company they would ask you. But if you feel confortable bringing up the rumor to let them know you are not actually leaving, then that is your choice. Post about it on LinkedIn. “Celebrating my Xth year and Yth month at JobCo. Contrary to the strangely misinformed rumor mill, I’m not going anywhere!” Tell everyone that your starting a business and you want them to join you. When they ask what kind of business you say, “it’s call minding my own” and it’s costs $0 to start.

Go to HR and make your intentions known. That’s it. Let them work with management to do damage control or adjust the 40 years 1983 2023 Amy Winehouse signature shirt in contrast I will get this narrative. It’s never a good idea to get pulled into drama. If you’re well aware that the rumor is just that, go about your job as normal. Inevitably, the rumor mongers will be the ones who look the fool. If your supervisor asks you about it, then you address the question directly with a simple, no. If you’re showing up, fulfilling your assignments, the chatter will have zero merit. They can fire you for no reason at all but you can try to tell people that that’s not true at all and that you’re very happy at this company. You should start wearing a really nice suit on random days to make them think you have a job interview to go to.
