I have a factory job. Not only that, I have a skilled laborer position in a factory. 20+ years ago I could have retired early and been a millionaire. Instead I have no savings to speak of and am basically just barely living above the 2023 Houston Astros al west division champions shirt also I will do this paycheck to paycheck threshold. Well let the kids work they do have so, they can be taxed at 7.25 minimum wage….we have gone completely backwards in my country. I work 40 hours a week and can’t make it between paychecks without a side gig. I rent a place with family so I don’t even have my own space really and have never been on a vacation. Can’t even afford an overnight. I make 3x the minimum wage at my full-time job so yes our economy is seriously broken. I grew up in the 90s and this is not the life I thought I would have as an adult. I am seriously ashamed of my life although I know a lot of it out of my hands. Ah the American dream. The way to the American Dream has been broken for decades. Thirty-five percent taxes on a $60,000 income, plus 10% sales tax means we pay nearly half our income in taxes … For what?Certainly not services and healthcare. If you don’t pay for your own healthcare in the US, you will likely die next time you need admission to a hospital.Of course the system is broken. It was rigged from the start to have people ‘buy into the dream’, and auto-exploit themselves for the supposed benefits it afforded. Those benefits disappeared long ago. In a world where housing takes 40% of our income, there is little left for food and basic expenditures.Your daughter is right, don’t convince her otherwise.

The offer was so lucrative, my parents packed up their house in Mississauga and moved out to the 2023 Houston Astros al west division champions shirt also I will do this wild west of Edmonton. Bought themselves a new house and my mother stayed at home raising both my toddler sister and myself when I arrived a few months later. One of my favorite things about this is my mom’s boyfriend when I was younger kept telling me to “hit the pavement” to get a job not realizing things are vastly different. At the time, he had his job (along with promotions/raises) for like 30 years so he had no idea of the changes. Eventually he thought he was financially stable enough to quit his job at like 50.. that lasted about 6 months then he realized he needs another job. He tried for another like 6 months and finally apologized to me for the hell he put me through saying to get a job. It’s far from easy to even get a job nowadays.. weirdly jobs are apparently everywhere but none of them want to hire.. Or they want to hire you but it’s just not worth it. There are some where you’d actually lose money working there.. because of travel and such but not getting compensated.
