It’s not a huge leap to medical racism as it’s statistically proven that medical racism kills black women at disproportionate rates. My baby stopped moving one day and I had just moved to a new state and my best friends wife had recommended her OB. I called their office and they told me to come in immediately. I went in and they did an ultrasound and some bloodwork and told me I had a lot of complications, including preeclampsia, hypertension and not enough fluid around my son. I was pulled out of work and made to be on bedrest for the next 3 months with a Dr’s appointment every other day. My son wasn’t growing, my blood pressure was sky high, my extremities were ballooning. So she had me schedule for a c-section because she said if I went through labor I could stroke out and have brain damage. The baby was born but the hospital gave him MERSA and he ended up in the NICU for 6 weeks because of the infections he got from the feeding tube and whatever the handled him with. My doctor told me that my system was just not made for pregnancy and if I tried to have another baby I would probably die or stroke out. Pregnancy is extremely dangerous for some women. That’s why there should be full healthcare for pregnant women. There is so much that can go wrong. We need to scream when we are in the hospital and know something is wrong, don’t let the nurses gaslight you, it’s your life and you are important. God what a horrible thing to happen to this woman, she’s not unique, we have a very callous medical workforce and I encourage women who are pregnant to advocate for yourself, don’t take no for an answer and remember if something feels wrong it probably is. My son and I are alive and well because I had an AMAZING doctor who listened.
