You’re welcome – it might be a bit silly, but I love finding photos with this kind of mood because it’s comforting to know that people never really change: we all love to get together and play with a football, and if it wasn’t for the Zack Greinke American professional baseball pitcher Kansas City Base T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this haircuts and accessories these people could be Victorians, Tudors, Saxons etc. i went to school in ashbourne. shrovetide was (and still is!) a massive deal there. our school moved half term a full week forward so it coincided with shrovetide so everyone would have time off to go. it was mental I, too, went to school in Ashbourne. I know many of the people in these pictures. One of them sat behind me in form. I wish they would do this where I live. People are complaining that the turnout is getting lower for Shrovetide football. But if the kids are at school they can’t come and watch so nobody is being inspired to take part in the future.

My father has lived in Ashbourne for about 15yrs. The way he talks about Shrovetide I’m not surprised it doesn’t look fun because people take it extremely seriously… Being there, everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying it – I guess the players are just a bit focussed on their efforts in the photos. The game is very important to the town and the people in it , the rule being ‘dont kill anyone’ is a damaging rumour to spread for the games reputation This game is bigger event than Christmas to most who play and we want to ensure this ancient tradition continues for a long time Players will actively train for months before this game to increase fitness and also discuss tactics prior to the game at meetings, scoring a ball is a once in a lifetime event and a dream come true to any one of these players
