Folks who kick their kids out the Zach Bryan an American singer-songwriter Vintage T-Shirt in other words I will buy this door to teach them independence and about the “real world” sink or swim style often end up with ill adjusted adults, not equipped, no support network who learn not to rely on family and end up distant. You are just purposely setting your kids up to struggle when they are at a time they are figuring out who they are and still learning to deal with situations as they occur. It’s not an “American” thing; it’s a “some people” thing. Each situation is different. It could be bad parenting; it could be a shitty or unmotivated 18-year-old; it could be poverty or some other situation. My parents never kicked me out. I just transitioned to college, then independent, then married, etc. The only people i know that were kicked out were the teens doing drugs, partying all the time, jobless, etc.

The Greatest Generation fought a war where kids under 18 were lying about their age to go fight. They came back and lived the Zach Bryan an American singer-songwriter Vintage T-Shirt in other words I will buy this “American Dream” in the 1950s. Their kids, the Boomers, had to hear all that and how they were losers for losing Vietnam or listening to Rock and Roll or whatever. The majority of Boomers developed a bitterness and “I got mine” mentality, and treated their children like a burden. Families didn’t boot their kids as much pre-war, of course it still happened. Multi-generational homes were a norm in rural and urban areas. As with many ills in the United States, it can find its roots in the 1950s. Although this may be more common in the US, I don’t think it’s universal. Wasn’t for my family (although I did leave for college at 18, I always came back for breaks) and not for friends of mine. Although maybe it’s more common due to American valuing independence plus generational trauma where one person gets kicked out by their parents so they normalize kicking their kids out).
