The early 90s was a whole nother thing. In addition to In Living Color, you had The Arsenio Hall show, The Fresh Prince, A Different World, Martin, and, to a much lesser extent, Family Matters. You have to also understand that all this was happening with the Youth Washington Capitals Ice City shirt also I will do this Rodney King incident being in the background and the rise of hip-hop culture going on at the same time. This was also around the time great Black directors like Spike Lee and John Singleton were dropping some of their best films too (Do The Right Thing, Boyz n the Hood). Up to this time, the Super Bowl was run like just another football game; there was more media and more TV ratings, but it was just a game, without nearly as much hoopla or other stuff going on in the city.
