I’m from a deep red state and now live in an east coast city. I was not surprised in 2016 like a my friends here. A lot of people in conservative America grew frustrated when Obama was President. He didn’t really have to pander to them like other presidents but he was still overwhelmingly popular and nothing really seemed to touch him.
