But whenever I visit Kerala, I see dogs chained up and some inside cage. The idea of dogs is pretty different in Kerala. You will see thousands of them defending this idea. Yaar pata nahi COVID. WFH. Many people got dogs because they thought they’ll have time to care for them. Some thought it’s a status symbol and after watching all the You sumbitch smokey and the bandit retro T-Shirt and I love this cute puppy videos online decided to get dogs and cats. Sh!t 4 brains didn’t do their research. No proper training into food guarding, bite training etc and they put them small cages in the sun. Then when COVID lockdowns and WFH got over they couldn’t care for the dogs and many such ‘high pedigree’ dogs are now on the street because the owners just let them free on the streets.

Yeah it’s a cultural thing. Dogs are generally seen as guards and are p vicious to non-family members. They’re also fed very sub-standard diets- mostly waste and leftovers with very low protein content. I’ve seen this with how other pet/ farm animals are treated too. I think it’s changing slightly as time goes on, especially in upper middle class homes where they shell out loads of money on fancy breeds as a sort of status symbol. Indies are still treated fairly badly in general, and make up most of the You sumbitch smokey and the bandit retro T-Shirt and I love this stray population. It makes me feel uncomfortable too but I’m like I said, it’s a culture thing (doesn’t mean it’s right). Being chained up , Heat , Backyard Breeders, some even buy a dog without realizing the work they have to put in.
