I had a lot of this same issue growing up. I’m glad you found out what type of “friend” they were and that things came to an end. It’s sad that so many of us can relate to this. You know the worst part about putting on that smile to spread kindness and positivity when you’re in such an abysmal place? Many of the people on the receiving end are cruel individuals who make it their mission to crush your spirit. That’s so shitty. You were a really good friend. I knew someone with that attitude, and had the misfortune of working with her. She was bitter inside and hated people who were happy. She hated me because I smiled, and was pleasant and gave everyone respect. She told my boss that she hated me as soon as she saw me, and thus, decided to treat me like crap. I think it was about trying to take me down to her level. If she couldn’t be happy in herself, why should anyone else, sort of thing. Yeah, I remember one of my coworkers told me these two dudes I thought I was really cool with were talking shit about me, so I asked what could they possibly say we chat all the time?
