IE if I find myself in forced servitude or something, if I couldn’t escape I’d just kill myself. There’s no point in being afraid. You’ll die whether or not you’re afraid, so accepting it and trying to live as a good person now is the best any of us can do. I’m not afraid of death. Doesn’t mean I want to die, but… what’s the point? Strictly speaking, death is just a lack of existence, so it won’t bother me. I would prefer not to have a violent death, but when you really think about it, death isn’t scary. It’s the process and the way we do our own heads in leading up to it. After my experience with psychedelics I feel like me and death are homies . Comes over for dinner every once and a while , pretty chill. I think if you believe being dead is like being in a coma or sleeping but having no dreams or thoughts rather than believing in an “afterlife” where “you” and “your soul+mind” continue to live and experience things then I think dying becomes far less scary. Being dead would be like being not born yet, there is nothing capable of having an experience so there is no experience. It’s just nothing as someone with a crippling fear of death, i was hoping to read something inspiring and insightful. should have remembered that i was on reddit and everyones responses would be “thats life bro”.

I used to be, until I was exposed to it a lot. I mean, if you’re scared you’ll be dammed for life for some transgression, then no, you’ll never overcome that fear. But, if your faith (or no faith) helps you live in awe at the wonder of life, then, yeah, over time your fear will abate. For many, including myself, it’s not the fear of being dead. It’s the fear of a bad death – one where we and/or our loved ones suffer physically, mentally, financially. This fear can be mitigated, I think, but not eliminated until maybe we’re knocking at the door of death and can see how it’s going to go down.
