Not to mention there have been plenty of times I’ve been familiar with a game and yet don’t understand acronyms people are using. It’s like they need to use acronyms for the YNW Melly Smoking Shirt besides I will buy this most random of things. I have no issue with acronyms, they just need to be widely used and established as the name of that thing. And there shouldn’t be an excess of acronyms. Sometimes names can be shortened to one word of the full name. Or some things can be given obvious nicknames. A perfect example imo is the item Bork in League of Legends which stands for Blade of the Ruined King. Widely used so new players will catch on quick as experienced players can explain when necessary, and also if you type bork in the search bar of the shop the item actually comes up. But then people will refer to Rapid Firecannon as RFC and I’ll have no clue what they’re talking about and I’ve played league for at least close to a decade now.

If I am new to a game there are likely very easy sources I can access without acronyms OR I find a list/post etc. about these acronyms to understand them. I went into the YNW Melly Smoking Shirt besides I will buy this PoE subreddit once and got almost exactly what op is talking about lol. I very clearly stated I’m a newborn, know nothing about the game and wanted build help because I know PoE is kinda sweaty, and half the people wee like “just make sure you have LRE and QTW because it’s good for fighting RE and TWOT but don’t forget ABCDEFG” The problem is twofold. One.. you needed to say “Bro wut?” to them at that time. Telling us you were confused by the onslaught of letters is redundant. So, when the responses branched into directions you couldn’t follow, you should have continued to embrace the newbie confession, and ask what those acronyms meant. Two… yes, those people who used the acronyms should have taken into account the fact that you just said you didn’t know anything about the game, and they shouldn’t have acted like gatekeepers. They should have also expected your follow-up questions of “What does ABCDE stand for?”.
