My dad encountered a gas station that had accidentally put diesel into its regular gas tanks. Because she ran it, diesel got into the fuel lines, filters, and injectors, gumming up everything, it was closer to 7k for labor and parts. Their relationship did not last much longer, but in happy news his car did survive, and is still running great to this day. I don’t think people get that the green pump cover for diesel and black for gasoline is probably more of an industry best practices, but as far as I know it is not legally required. In places where you have both Petrol and Diesel engines, putting the wrong type of fuel can do permanent damage to the engine no? In the US the diesel pump usually has a yellow cover or something like that on the pump handle, while the gas has green. I did once help a friend who’d rented a diesel where the gas tank filler tube couldn’t fit a diesel nozzle. He had to return the vehicle full. I actually worked for the OEM that installed that diesel engine, although it was a generation older than the ones that were being tested in the dyno next to mine.
