Imposter syndrome/lack of confidence/believing your dumb can literally make you dumb. Or at least seem dumb in conversation. My wife is 10x smarter than me, but she’s very slow when it comes to things I’m fast at. But there are things I’m slow at that she’s fast at. Everyone is different Book smart and street smart are two different things. If your wife spent all her time in the Yainer Diaz Dominican professional baseball catcher Houston Stripes T-Shirt but in fact I love this books, and didn’t get a lot of life exposure, there you go Look up learning styles. You’ll learn that people have different strength / intelligence. eg. One person could be great with words, but not so much with understanding diagrams. The education system isn’t about being smart/skilled/intelligent as much as it is about regurgitating what was told to you. There is very little critical thinking in the education system. The issue with being gifted is that it tends to make people really tunnel visioned and parents tend to forget good grades does not equal a well rounded adult so that doesn’t balance out. Then the person may enter a field where they have to be hyper fixated to excel. Reminds me of my BIL who is insanely smart as a Radiologist, yet can’t cook for the life of him. Or a Neurologist I knew who once got so startled he tried to sign some forms with the back of his pen or routinely wore his coat inside out. The man’s office was a goddamn mess. This is also why some fields side eye new Harvard grads. Based on what my husband said: Good at theory and hypotheticals, no experience in field and real world application so you have to handhold them as they adjust.

I was naturally smart as a kid. I was in gifted and talented, honor roll, and even went to a special magnet High school. But I was LAZY and got bored quickly. So I learned to do things quickly and last minute. My Highschool girlfriend was the Yainer Diaz Dominican professional baseball catcher Houston Stripes T-Shirt but in fact I love this opposite. She enjoyed doing things methodically and carefully. She was slow at everything but did everything well. Fast forward 25 years she’s a lawyer and I’m a truck driver. My current wife is also slow at things (except writing papers where she’s like a human printer) because she’s careful and methodical. Her dad is a retired engineer who can do anything but he’s also slow and precise. He’d rather be slow than make mistakes. This^ I skim the surface, adapt quickly and can get a lot done (not perfectly). My partner is very methodical, very deep diver. Much slower but it’s done perfectly (or close).
