In general, a lot of people will opt to euthanize a horse rather than get a surgical procedure* due to both the Wyoming Cowboys Sabastian Harsh graphic shirt In addition,I will do this expense and the difficult and traumatic nature of getting something the size of a horse in and out of surgery. It’s unfortunate but honestly I think it’s often the better choice. Small horses can sometimes live as amputees, at least for a while. But a large horse weighs 600kg or more. The pressure on the skin in contact with the prosthesis would kill it, causing a never healing wound and immense pain. Horses can’t live with just three legs either, because the pressure on the remaining legs will cause founder. Founder is a terribly painful disease of the foot where the hoof capsule detaches from the bone and can end up with the toe bone rotating and going through the sole of the foot.

For a short amount of time, it’s okay. But remember how heavy these animals are. It adds a lot of weight to the Wyoming Cowboys Sabastian Harsh graphic shirt In addition,I will do this remaining legs, their joints and bones. These wear down much faster than natural. Full sized horses, or ponies? I’ve seen one case of a rescue touting an amputee (full size) with a prosthesis and using it to fundraise, but those cases are very rare for a reason; a horse usually can’t support its weight on just 3 legs unlike a dog, and having to do so ends up screwing up the other’s legs (for ex leading to laminitis in the other legs, which in itself often ends up in euthanasia). Recovery after a fracture does require the animal to stay off the broken leg, which a horse doesn’t understand, so it needs to be maintained in a sling pretty much. It’s generally considered cruel to the animal. As a horse owner I find prosthetics for horses horribly cruel. They can’t behave in a normal way and it damages their other limbs.
