I’ve been married for over twenty years. My wife knows that sometimes I just want to do my own thing. My favorite time all week is when she and our daughter go out for a few hours on a weeknight and i get the Wun Night Only Wunna Gunna Flower Shirt but in fact I love this whole house – just the cat and me. It is important for both parties to try and come to an agreement that both people feel good with, but do remember: you are two separate people. You can’t force them to do something, or make them happy with a decision, and they cannot do that to you. If you cannot come up with a consensus that you both can live with, then what you can do is determine how you feel with whatever choice is left, and decide what is best for you and your life.

Solitude and personal time is something you need on a regular basis, obviously. Help her understand that. She probably enjoys her solitude too on occasion. Everyone does.
