A dermatologist is great and is often fine for random body cyst removal, but any time you do even minor surgery on your face, you want a plastic surgeon in there. They are specifically trained in how to handle the tiny details so you don’t scar / your appearance is not permanently affected.

I went to the derm. Derm says “that’s on a hand, I can’t do that. Tendons and nerves. You need a hand specialist” and sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. I had a couple of facial cysts. My dermatologist refused to take them out since they were on my face. They were worried about scarring. Apparently your face, shoulders and upper chest have an increased risk of scarring (especially with keloids, which is how I heal) because there’s not a ton of blood flow. I had to go to a plastic surgeon to have them removed. If it’s a cyst, they need to remove the cyst wall or else this will happen again (maybe not the abscess part, but surely the cyst part). Simply draining it isn’t enough.
