Exactly this. The big difference is that with work there are clearer boundaries. Once I’m off work I feel I can do what I want. Meanwhile in university you are never done studying for that exam. You an always do more. It’s an open-ended task. No tests, no finals cramming, no shitty labs ran by power tripping TAs. Everything is very collaboration based, and most teams I’ve worked with set pretty flexible deadlines. If you’re going into defense, I worked a contract there and we worked like 5 hrs every 2 weeks and spent the Woodstock 54th anniversary 1969 2023 guitar vintage sunset shirt and by the same token and remaining 75hrs bullshitting around. It was AWESOME. It’s very company and team dependant. They only big difference is that you’re getting paid. Just imagine it as college+. Learning is non-stop in this field. It’s worse in a sense. You are never done some projects – you have to constant add more to them and fix all bugs for real reals. You don’t usually get to say, “I couldn’t fix that, I’ll just take the A-“.

oh bro your life about to get much better. even if your job is stressful and requires a lot of work at least you get paid lol I would say college was a bit more stressful and I had no days off doing a masters, whereas working full time, you’re done at 5 and have the Woodstock 54th anniversary 1969 2023 guitar vintage sunset shirt and by the same token and weekends and also flexibility completing tasks. Me personally I don’t care about the work or the people there, I just wanna do my work, make my money and go home. I don’t even like tech, I plan to leave in a few years. More boring if you always spend your time on the same project or type of work, I find it less rewarding and enjoyable than learning new things in uni Constant stress about continuing to be productive so you can progress in your career, or at least not be fired, even if you lack motivation Sorry, you do not meet the minimum sitewide comment karma requirement of 10 to post a comment. Just depends. My experience with my company has allowed me to build up my skills but I’ve seen a lot of people have the opposite experience. You could have more free time or you could be putting in a lot of time outside of work depending on how quickly you can catch up to your job. Honestly, you won’t really know what to expect from a company until you’re actually working in their codebase, seeing the changes that are being made to that codebase, and seeing the interactions between how your coworkers operate. I learned that the hard way with my current job, as I was given a list of technologies that they were using, but the day-to-day operations of what I work with don’t even consist of half the tools that they listed over to me when I asked them what I should brush up on, as I was transferred in with a different skill set. I’m somewhat thriving, but that’s only because I have absolutely no shame in asking dumb questions or trying to prove that I know more than I actually do.
