Oh this one made me chuckle! I’m sorry for your loss. In a way I actually think Eternal Flame is quite appropriate, makes the With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility Marvel Spider man Comic shirt and by the same token and act of cremation feel more spiritual. “Do you feel my heart beating” is a bit of a tough line though…. I recently told my husband I’m going to have a karaoke funeral, and he has to sing this as the last song of the night. He’s a massive introvert and so didn’t find this as funny as I did. Some really nice suggestions here, I think I’m going to put together a completely inappropriate funeral playlist A friend died 3 months ago. Her funeral song was Sympathy for the Devil. It may have been inappropriate but she’d have loved it. Since my top suggestion was already mentioned (Another One Bites the Dust), then I’ll suggest the obvious Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door; Dust In The Wind and We Didn’t Start The Fire for a cremation (Why yes, my music tastes are that of an angsty 13 year old girl, though I’m actually just an anxiety-filled 25 year old woman!) I think realistically, a song that is there just to make people feel sad and is very self indulgent, especially if the lyrics are very much about a particular person. You might be dead, but you’re still expected to have some of that classic British decorum about not acknowledging things that have not gone entirely in your favour (e.g. dying). It’s a song I put on when I’m feeling sad about losing certain people, but invoking a song about Syd Barrett to make other people feel sad is just cringe.

I’ve prepared mine, and they’re almost all inappropriate. Good Ones by Charli XCX, Jan Terri’s version of Ave Maria, Artpop by Lady Gaga, Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi, and I’m So Sexy by Right Said Fred. We ended my Mum’s funeral with Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds. (she was a fan of the With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility Marvel Spider man Comic shirt and by the same token and band and we’d started with Jesus to A Child by George Michael). It raised a chuckle! We had the Countdown theme played at my Grandads funeral as the curtains closed. It ended up being perfectly in time as well. I had to decide on the music for mum’s funeral a couple of months ago. It was really not easy selecting the 3 songs. There was one bit of music she absolutely loved and I was umming and ahhing about whether it was appropriate.
