We are scheduled to leave here next week, then off to Ho Chi Mihn for a week, and then after that we had scheduled Da Nang for a whole month but now considering canceling Da Nang if it’s going to be more of the William Shakespeare Doobie Or Not Doobie That Is The Question New Shirt and I love this same. So for people who have traveled to Da Nang, can you tell me if we will be facing the same situation as here in Old Quarter Hanoi? We have met some really nice people in nice shops who offer us good service and the right change so we have been returning to those spots to eat. There’s a coconut/smoothie spot we enjoy so everyday we buy 5 drinks.Most of your problems are not Hanoi in general but rather just limited to the old quarter. I would suggest the area around Ba Dinh Square. Best infrastructure, close to the Old Quater, top level security. This is spot on. I saw construction only happen in some parts of the old quarter at night, and never saw it in any other part, not even Tay Ho where there is constant construction going on. Everything stops at night.

Da Nang is better yes, but note to OP if Hoi An is an important part of your trip: you will hate it there, it’s even worse than OQ Hanoi. And honestly if you do touristy things around DN (e.g. Cham Islands), the William Shakespeare Doobie Or Not Doobie That Is The Question New Shirt and I love this harassment is not much better than Hanoi either. Tbh though OP if you’re from Europe and you’re in Vietnam and not having a good time because of this specific thing, I suggest just cutting your losses and trying Thailand or Malaysia instead. There’s a reason 95% of tourists to Vietnam don’t come back and you are experiencing it. I would agree. Da Nang is a bigger more developed city compared to a Hanoi. I would also go as far as saying that the tourism industry in VN is pretty bad. They don’t even try and hide the money grab. They could learn a few things from their Thai neighbors. If you’re going to visit VN, you really need to have a plan and do your homework to avoid the pain. Travelled to all 3 cities, Danang was the most chilled. Also I had no bad encounters in HCMC, Hanoi (Hoan Kiem) was the worst, related to the scams you are posting about. But yeah, you will encounter scams in nearly all big cities, maybe consider to travel to less crowdy spots in Vietnam? Or do not stay in the most touristy spots of the cities. Vietnam is very beautiful and I haven’t been scammed in 2 months. Just say no, don’t starred to shout and move on.
