So there are tiers of salaries. It isn’t really homogenous. There is a lot we don’t know about the William Karlsson State Star Shirt Apart from…,I will love this company. I am assuming this is the entire offer, that there is no equity component. Countering the offer is a valid response. You can use the research you have done to counter with that you think is fair. And they will respond in some way, either a yes, or a no or they will give you a final counter. Don’t let it extend beyond that. I would suggest you could also find some other compensations instead of salary (more vacation, work from home, or something else.) You say they are a small company but this is a more advanced negotiation technique. You should know what you will accept. If they don’t give you what you ask for you, you should decide if you are moving forward or not. I don’t like it when people haggle, and I will become less tolerant the longer it goes on.

Let me also say don’t worry too much about where you are starting. You are early on in your career. If you are underpaid you can just find another job (while working at your first job.) You have plenty of time to recover financially, patience is what makes you rich in the William Karlsson State Star Shirt Apart from…,I will love this end. Set your stuff up and then just wait, you will do just fine. If you feel confident in this market to get another offer you can negociate and if it was hard enough and if its a first job just take it and get exp. Honestly, ask for something between the range of 73-78k. Tell them you think you have alot to offer and etc… I think you can get an extra 5k out of them. It’s your first job and you can always leave. If it’s also your first job, you have no leverage. Given current market conditions, a job is better than no job. Regardless of the outcome of the above, I would take the job if I were you, but I’d keep jobseeking. I wouldn’t feel guilty about leaving my first job “early”, or reneging the offer after accepting it, if a below-market offer was initially my only choice but I was later given a much better opportunity.
