I have blood tests every couple of months. It’s best described as feeling like a strong nip or a pinch. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite sensation but it’s no worse than that. I’ve had a few. Non have ever hurt. I don’t look, and there a slight prick in your arm. It really doesn’t hurt…. The needle they use is tiny, just big enough to poke a hole for the cannula. For every test, that’s every separate vial of blood, they’ll just connect the vial to the cannula. They just pop on and off like lego. I had my blood tested once a week for six months. Sometimes it hurt, sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes I felt lightheaded, sometimes I didn’t. Make sure you’re hydrated if you want to skip feeling woozy. Here’s my experience of the level of pain from multiple blood tests. After the test, they tape a piece of cotton wool over the hole. Removing that tape, pulling out the hairs on my arm, was more painful than the test. Every single time. So that’s the pain level you’re looking at. Less than yanking out a hair. If you pluck your eyebrows, that’s more painful than the needle. It won’t be comfortable but to be honest it’s more the idea of it than the actual experience that people are afraid of. And it’s over fast. I suggest looking away if it bothers you. It doesn’t bother me so I watch. I’ve had ones I barely noticed and ones that hurt like a son of a b. You are young which usually means your veins will be easy to find and the pain will be a light scratch/pinch.

Blood tests are really important and can catch alot of diiferent problems early before more intentive testing is required, so even if it does hurt or you have issues with blood tests you should get them anyway. I’ve not had a problem with them. Was given a tip though by the nurse drawing blood at my last appointment… drink water beforehand. She asked if I’d drunk anything and I’d had a cup of tea perhaps two hours before. I was dehydrated and she could tell. It was taking longer to come out. If you want to make sure it goes a little faster, make sure you’re hydrated. Just water though if you’re doing a fasting test.
