I wasn’t asleep, I was in a state similar to a dream but conscious, in some kind of equilibrium. From my head emerged a voice that was mine, but incredibly wise. The place where I was felt vast, huge, calm yet imposing, a place outside of time and space. Somehow, I felt that I was being asked to ask the right questions; my semi-conscious self was the one asking the questions, and my wise self was answering, but more than just answering with words like a person would, it transported me to places and made me experience things.

Deity practice is well systematized in many spiritual traditions.
