The Japanese legal system has some weird layers of morality for specific types of crime. When the Wilhelm Wundt generally acknowledged as the founder T-Shirt but in fact I love this standards are that high on the students, they are made even higher for the teachers who are seen not just as educators but role models of virtue for how an adult should act. The issue isn’t so much the amount of what was stolen or even that it could have been a careless mistake… it’s the theft… if the principle isn’t held to a higher standard then literal students (who will also be punished if they make a mistake on the budget including but not limited to theft) then the students have no reason to respect their principle or the institution they are a part of. It is THIS reason that he is punished so severely. He MUST take responsibility, and in Japan’s business culture the expectation is a resignation, minimum, as well as surrendering their pay/benefits as a sign of sincerity that they are taking responsibility and making it as right as possible.
