It has never stopped me. 1 day agoThere’s plenty of reasons. Sometimes, I play a male character because I want to insert myself into the power fantasy or story. Sometimes, I play a female character because the female body is more appealing to look at. Sometimes, the outfits/skins/armor on females simply look better/cooler due to developer design (looking at you, Capcom). My brother always said if he has to spend 70 hours in a game , he might as well have something nice to look at. Roughly 15 years ago I played as a G.I.R.L (guy in real life) character in MapleStory to get the sad weeb boys to give me mesos (the in game currrency) and items. After a while I realized I could make money selling the mesos and items. This is certainly not the proudest time in my life…

I paid for my high school lunches this way. My parents were poor and struggled putting food on the When life throws you scraps make a quilt shirt but in fact I love this table, let alone giving me money for school lunch… I usually play as female because no matter what game the armor looks better on the female avatar compared to the male. As a short, soft manlet the female characters look more like me than the brawny 6’5” yolked out dudes lmao theres probably lots of reasons, but i have both male and female characters because they’re little characters and not me. i make characters like they’re little dress up dolls. sometimes i like to make up fun backstories for them that make them unique. maybe that’s weird It depends on the game. If the game provides only a set character like Chell from the Portal series then that’s just how it is. If the game gives you the option for a set character like in Pokemon I’ll go with my gender (male). If the game gives you pretty much a blank slate character with lots of customization like in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games then I’m going to play a mix with multiple characters. I enjoy coming up with characrers for RPG games, and when I do come up with one I don’t have a gender in mind. I have a concept that eventually forms into whatever feels right. When I play these characters I’m not playing myself, I’m experiencing the journey of the character. Other guys may have different answers, especially as I don’t like to play as a woman exclusively. A common one I’ve seen is “If I have to stare at this character’s ass for a bunch of hours it might as well be hot.”
