What Americans fear isn’t free healthcare, it’s giving our government power over our healthcare. Americans were founded on the idea of the government being subservient to the people and a Constitution that works to ensure that will always be the case. In most Americans opinion giving our government any more power over our everyday lives than is absolutely necessary is an abhorrent thought. What you see in so much of current American political arguments can be reduced down to whether the role of government should be to provide for the people or to get out of the way and allow the people to provide for themselves. Whether the government should expand to a point where it can take over and care for the people or be as small as possible to provide for the common defense, provide a forum for disagreements between the states and maintain common currency. This is why many feel that there is no real two-party system anymore because the conservatives aren’t even ready to reduce governmental reach to achieve that idea of “minimalist”…….not that the governmental structure in place would ever let that happen anyways. And that’s what scares so many of us……..the fact that we may already be beyond the ability to achieve subjugation of the government to the will of the people if needed. Trump, Biden……it doesn’t matter. Neither of them should have the power they currently do.

I’m not afraid of anything free. I just know how terrible the When i sad wad normal may have exaggerated slightly cow shirt moreover I love this government is at handling things and worried how terrible they’ll be at handling HC. Who, exactly, do you think pays taxes? If you buy lunch with your credit-card, is lunch “free”? No, you just get the bill later. I live in the outskirts of Sweden’s second largest city and within a 15 minute walk I have a hospital, a pharmacy, and won’t be charged for any visits or medication. Maybe it works for you personally: you of course are not desperately ill. People who are desperately ill, or unpopular with the government, or want treatments that the government does not feel like paying for, might have another opinion. Americans don’t want to pay taxes that might help other people who can’t pay as much. So if we had healthcare paid for by tax dollars people who don’t work (because they are disabled or even they are, god forbid, lazy) are going to get free healthcare also. People would rather hurt themselves and their families than pay for someone else’s healthcare. First of all, there’s no such thing as free healthcare. Hospitals are not free to build and upkeeo, doctors don’t work for free, medications are not for free. Therefore, there can never be free healthcare. It’s just a matter of how you want to charge people and label it. “Free healthcare” means the government selling you a compulsary insurance package. Whether directly, or indirectly through taxes. Private health insurances are still very popular in countries with “free healthcare” as well. So people end up paying for two healthcare insurances.
