My biggest takeaway from that subreddit was that before the What Have The Romans Ever Done For Us Shirt Apart from…,I will love this invasion, they were gaslighting the hell out of anyone who would listen. “There’s not gonna be an invasion, it’s western warmongering/fearmongering, take a look at what the US is doing instead” etc. The mods of r/Russia are sociopathic gaslighters, and they contributed a LOT of the rhetoric that “there will be no invasion… but now that there is one, Ukraine brought it on themselves”. Here’s an example I screenshotted, that sub was a hellhole – hey moved on from covid conspiracies to spreading the russian propaganda. And it is expected cause that sub is moderated by russian mods for some time now. You know, that’s the question I’m asking myself nowadays whenever I stumble across messages of similar character. I’m sure people like that exist in there, but was I stuck in an echo chamber of my own inner circle for too long that I completely missed that this is actually what the country thinks? It can’t be it, can it? But then I remember that the regular Russian person doesn’t know English for shit; the vocabularly isn’t good enough to sow misinformation. This I can vouch for. So I feel like the general rule of thumb is if you see someone speaking on a more than passable level praising the regime the chances for that to be an actual human being are slim to none. As a Russian I always tried to avoid this sub. Spent a bit of time a few years ago there, but it seemed way too creepy to me since the beginning. Like full of strange overly conservative (sometimes quite right winged) people with extreme views.

Everyone is evil (except Belarus), Russia is a savior, nazis control Ukraine and gay liberals control the EU. This is true. My friends even in St. Petersburg have no idea what and why this is happening. They are told Ukraine is run by Nazis and Putin had no choice but to save Russia and Europe. Fucking propaganda I was banned a long time ago after writing about politicians who have been poisoned in recent decades in Russia. Russia subreddit full of propaganda.
