My point is there really is no difference in a “wild” honey bee and one that lives in an artificial hive in my bee yard. I won’t wear the super thick leather gloves, but I also won’t do bare-handed. I wear nitrile gloves when I work the bees. I almost always wear blue, but one day I ran out of blue gloves and grabbed a pair of black nitrile gloves that I use for car repair work.

The bees went nuts. They started popping my gloves, trying to sting through them. I walked away. Honestly, once you’ve been working with bees for a while, you don’t need the gear to be tight fitting. The hive just isn’t that interested in stinging you. You wear the suit and face protection and gloves of course, it just doesn’t need to be perfectly sealed to protect. Yeah the bees aren’t really trying to crawl into your suit and kill you. If they are, you’re like .. a bear, or something. Leave that hive alone I once made the mistake of wearing black socks. My ankles were the size of watermelons by the time I got back inside.
