get that shit written and signed before they string you along for three years and then hire somebody to take over the Weekend forecast cigars with a chance of bourbon T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this role with its actual pay before bumping you back down Ask for specific metrics/dates to measure your growth and earning of a raise. Close the open-endedness of it. They can either tell you want you need to work for, or they don’t mean it. Send out resumes with your new title. See if other companies feel like you’ve already made the necessary growth. You may want to reach out to your old boss to get their take on the situation. They’ll have insights into the position and leadership that you’ve not been told. Get a date in writing for WHEN they will assess a pay raise, and start looking as they are taking advantage of you. It may work out great, or they may be putting you in the role until they find a “better” candidate for the role from outside, and could be using you as a stop gap. Then, when they get that new person, you would be sent back to your old position. But again, it could work out great…. This sounds like a quick fix to fill the void without having to pay you more. If it were me, I’d get it in writing and not step beyond my previous title and pay rate until they actually promote you. It sounds exploitative in any other capacity, because you’ll be doing the job but not have any of the compensatory perks.

I’d also consider demanding backpay for the Weekend forecast cigars with a chance of bourbon T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this work if you do agree. All of it in writing, of course. Everyone else here hit the nail on the head with their advice. Personally, I’ve gotten the “we like you where you are treatment” in the past (with that wording). They don’t care about you at all, even if you’re making them money. Just remember that. They’ll forget about you one day. Don’t let them take advantage of you today. You’re fucked if you agree to those terms. The ONLY way to protect yourself is to say, “If I am immediately taking on this responsibility and culpability of my team’s performance, I will be paid accordingly at the get go. Would you hire someone off the street and tell them that we’re going to pay you a janitor’s wage until “you’re comfortable” being a director? Of course you wouldn’t” If you accept these parameters that they are “offering”, you are only seting yourself up to be a sucker…and they KNOW it!
