I think if you’re working in tech, you can get away with pretty much anything. The question is what aesthetic draws you in particular. I personally like to dress classic but modern on most days (e.g. in the We believe 1999 NBA Finals New York Knicks shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this style of Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler, The Row, Lemaire, etc.), but I’ll also have some crazier outfits. I’m definitely more formal than most people in tech but that’s my style and once people get that about me they don’t find it “weird” anymore. Weird because you’re coming to the office and maybe the guys are in shorts and sandals. So I guess try to find inspiration first and then learn how to make that style up to date. Also, I don’t think minimalism will ever be out of style, maybe only the cuts and the proportions will change over time. I work in UX in the Midwest. Also remote although occasionally I have to go into the office. When I go in, I work at a bank so we dress more business casual. A lot of my team on Marketing wears our bank branded clothes and slacks or a blouse and slacks. I would say most of them aren’t particularly into fashion. A couple of my coworkers get stitch fix and as someone who once styled for stitch fix, I know their clothes aren’t particularly the most trendy.

However in the We believe 1999 NBA Finals New York Knicks shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this past I’ve worked as a front end Dev and in other UX roles, the majority of the industry I would say is very laid back and casual. Jeans and a nice shirt. I would say in 2023, wide leg slacks is trendy, a tshirt, and a cropped cardigan would update a look. You could also go for a midi or maxi dress depending on the weather and how dressy or not your office is. You could either go for bright colors or keep it minimalist. Personally I go for more solid colors when I’m in the office but I also try not to stand out too much. I’m either at a desk working or if I’m at a branch, blending in so I can get feedback from members without distracting them. Wear shoes you can walk in – no one ever wears heels in SF. Something like a Veja or Ive actually noticed a lot of people wearing Doc Martins recently. I agree with you that I haven’t figured out my work wardrobe, especially when it comes to client meetings. Some people are so causal, it’s hard to know how to not overdress. Woman in tech in SF. I am totally rocking black doc martins all winter. Straight to wide leg dark wash or black jeans + sweater or nice t-shirt. I have been living in 2 well loved sweater blazers (one camel and one black) that I toss over everything because the weather is chilly
