37 here. Have a 15 month old boy and a baby girl due in April. It’s insane but I wouldn’t change a thing. I suppose having your children sitting next to your bed in hospital on your last day on Earth can also help a lot with that question. I didn’t exactly make that choice, but I knew I wasn’t ready in my 30s (now in my 40s) because of problems with income stability and income volume, where being a man, this interacts with the whole ‘provider’ thing. But I think it’s possible I would have managed with a wife who made a similar income to my own, as opposed to someone closer to minimum wage, which wasn’t too much of a living wage in my jurisdiction 10 years ago, as opposed to now. And now we also have huge tax benefits and income-independent social benefits for families with children, so my living situation would be better married and with children compared to a childless old bachelor right now. However, my income is disappearing because my profession is being cancelled by AI. So the lack of stability and security is kicking in again, and I don’t want children to go through that, not to mention that many women aren’t prepared to go through it as wives, they expect the husband to be able to provide more of a bumpless ride. Well, provide. So, sadly, I am where I am. But some days I almost literally get visual images of a child climbing onto the stool at the table in my kitchen and eating a sandwich before parting for school. My apartment feels empty. My senior relatives grow older and older without seeing the nephews/great-nephews/grandkids, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I were to become a great-uncle myself relatively soon, which is basically grandpa territory. It sucks not to have children of your own. Whether I regret my decisions — or which ones — is a different story. First of all, there’s regret over my failure to secure better living conditions for a potential family. Perhaps I could have done more, or at least could have done something different, to get a better paying job. Or perhaps not. Perhaps I should have accepted living in poverty just to have children. Perhaps I will never know. It’s a pity I never met a compatible person with a similar income level (to avoid depending solely on my income), so we could have both made it together. After all, it takes two to have children. I do understand singles who decide to adopt later in their lives.

We had kids but didn’t really enjoy parenthood that much (too young/immature and was struggling) but we are really enjoying seeing our kids live out their lives and especially having a new grand baby. Also, if something happens to my husband, I know that I can depend on my son to help me. On top of that, it’s nice knowing who will get our possessions once we are gone. 2nd to last point is super important that a lot of people gloss over.
