I was in Korea from 2013 – 2018 and recently went back after 5 years away. So it’s been exactly 10 years since I first moved there. – Was shocked by how expensive food has gotten. It’s basically doubled in price since the last time I was there, even at places like Kimbap Nara. – Seoul seems cleaner. During my time living there, there used to be trash strewn all over the place. You still get piles of trash on the street every now and then but it seemed a bit better to me. Seoul also looks quite a bit more rundown though. Although maybe it always looked that way and I just can’t remember. – People seem a bit more polite. Used to get crashed into a lot, shoulder barged etc. on the street. Didn’t happen to me once while I was there recently. People are better at getting on and off the subway too.

– Itaewon is so sterile. When I first arrived in 2013 it was still basically a dirt street in the Wallows Halloween Spirit shirt Besides,I will do this area behind the Hamilton. This is neither good nor bad, just an observation. – All the anti-smoking stuff. Back in 2013 you could light up a cig in a BBQ joint. Can’t smoke anywhere now. They even have loudspeakers in the alleys blasting a recorded message telling you not to smoke. I actually support not smoking on the street, even as a smoker, but the lack of designated smoking areas is a pain. Although that is peak Korea – ban something somewhere but offer no alternative.
