This all sounds like a roundabout way to reduce your pay, potentially to skirt some sort of legal issues. They are just exploiting your desperation for experience. It’s definitely highly unethical. I don’t know what the internship process is at your school, but I would definitely talk to whoever is in charge of the managing these partnerships and report this company. However, if you feel like there is genuinely something to learn from them, I guess go ahead.

There is no such thing as an independent intern as interns no nothing, they need to be shown how to do stuff and should be doing basic tasks and not being expected to implement something at the same speed as an experienced dev. However, some of their feedback could be valid. Review your pull requests, and others if possible, and compare to what others do I see you’re returning with docked pay, but you should name and shame them once you’ve completed the internship. Get the experience then shit all over them on Reddit and Glassdoor.
