I work in HVAC and we have one guy who takes forever to install boilers. I wish my facilities guy was half as good as this. I always feel the need to subtly double-check his work to make sure he doesnt get anyone killed. But i cant fire him because he doesnt technically work for my department, just in my building. Lets just say, he has been responsible for more than a couple of flooding incidents. And his work is best described as… occasionally functional. Its not a facility guys job to do this its a plumbers maybe you should know that before calling for peoples jobs

Eh, it very much depends. Plenty of facilities departments have in house plumbers who would be working on or repairing a set up like this but you’re absolutely right, they wouldn’t be doing a system install. There is a primary water loop that continuously circulates water through the boiler (bottom pump)

Secondary Loop 2 (mid right) is pulling water from the primary loop as needed, at a higher temperature than loop 1. You will have to service different components be it the pumps, control valves, or radiant fixtures. This makes it easy to fix a pump without draining the entire system, which costs time and money to refill. Respect. I never did get good enough at water systems to eyeball and explain that shit without access to and a few minutes to review a submittal. What are the benefits of using copper over pex (plastic) or whatever else? I look at this and my first thought is ‘ladida, look at this rich person with new copper’. But for all I know there are meaningful benefits Generally copper can last much longer. Personally it makes sense to use in the mechanical room to make service easier. Ball valves work better, pumps may require it based on which manufacturer you use, if you pull something out you know the pipes will be where you left them. I am not a plumber, but have a system similar to this in our home. It was explained to me that PEX is for delivering water, copper and other metals are for valves and fixtures that manipulate water. Copper is less susceptible to changes in pressure, so it makes more sense in an interchange like what’s pictured. Copper also has a higher temperature limit of 400F, while PEX tops out at 180F. An important factor when a boiler is involved. My dad’s a plumber and its absolutely fucking absurd how often people delay paying him by months. At any given time he probably has multiple people owing him for jobs he did >3 months prior.
In any other field, you dont avail of a service before you can pay for it, let alone months in advance. Look up someone youtube videos it’s pretty simple. Oh no, I did it myself as well. A plumber was going to charge me $300 (that’s with a $100 discount). I was like screw that. I just did it myself. That’s about what we’d charge. 225 an hour plus parts. And depending on the cartridge you’d be looking at about a $300+ total. But if you’re not confident you can do it properly, please call a professional. I cannot tell you the amount of times we’ve been called to clean up after a DIYer or someone’s “buddy who can do it cheaper.”

At least the copper should, looks like controls free wired a bunch of shit instead of having an installer run flex or conduit like they should’ve but that’s on whatever PM was involved not the controls tech. My BiL is a plumber and does work like this. The inspector who came to look over the furnace he put in for me said it was the cleanest job he’s ever seen. BiL was 24 at the time. For a start, why so many shut off valves? You shut off the start of the fucking circuit with one valve and do what you need to do lol. You don’t need a valve at the start and end point of every point on the circuit lol. The pump for example has two valves, one on each side. Wtf is the purpose of that? Then all that links into a regular ass boiler…. Its not even industrial. I can’t really think of a single situation where this would be the best way to do anything lol.
