Race is usually the easiest group identity to target but they are fine targeting other marginalized groups when convenient. They just need the hate to bend weak people towards supporting their goals. There are white protagonists in the film helping Ruby and basically assuring the audience that not all whites people were like the screaming crowds outside the school. They know that, the “it makes all white people seem racist” is a dog whistle, because they’re really just upset that the racists are rightfully the bad guys. They (parents who brought this complaint) don’t want their kids to sympathize with POC, and therefore find compassion with Black Lives Matter and other progressive causes such as trans/LGBT rights and gender equality. If we never teach about the racist policies of our country’s past, then today’s demands for (racial) equality and judicial reform seem wholly unreasonable and unjustifiable and even racist against white people/anti-Christian.
