So I had a bench warrant once for missing a court date that I had no idea about. I literally got the Veteran honor those who serve eagle american flag T-Shirt and I will buy this letter the day after the hearing. I called and scheduled a new hearing, but didn’t turn myself in. When I showed for the hearing my warrant went away and I just explained to the judge I was unaware of the original hearing and apologized for missing it. I also did not have a lawyer. Just had to avoid any police interaction for a week or 2. Depends on the charge .When you turn yourself in dont go carrying anything you shouldnt .Just take your ID and nothing else . You can try to get the bench warrant quashed. If you contact the clerk for the judge who issued it and see if you can convince the clerk to ask the judge that you want to come in for a new court date that will often do that depending on how serious the charge was that you are facing and if you have a decent excuse. Obviously it’d be easier if you had a lawyer but since you can’t afford one you’d need to do it yourself (on the phone obviously, if you went into court you’d get arrested). Calling in an hour before the judge starts hearing cases or in the late afternoon like 3 or 4pm might be ideal. You should also just ask the clerk for their advice as to the best day/time to ask. Some judges are nicer in the morning, some aren’t nice until they’ve had their coffee, and some days of the week are easier than other’s. You should also ask this in terms of the next suggestion as well…
