Such a shame that when Facebook finally does die we will never again have links like that to everyone who was ever meaningful to us in our lives. Thanks Zuck. This. I flushed it all back in 2019 but I am good with it. Especially seeing the cesspool of disinformation and political polarization that it has become. MySpace was so much better, but it was a more “innocent ” time. I used Facebook to reconnect with two of my good friends from high school and I talk to both of them regularly now. Actually, I would argue that connecting to and being immersed into the lives of long lost friends and acquaintences is terrible for mental health. Because you are bombarded with the highlights of their lives, without exposure to their plights. And these friends, many have hundreds of such connections, are seldom in your real life. So you have the extreme social pressure but none of the benefits that come with actual meaningful interactions. It warps up a mind, especially young ones. Makes it seem like everyone is happy except them. I guess a lot of people experience fatigue out of this and thus spend more time in groups rather than their feed. Creating strong echo chambers. I hear you and I agree. But I think it’s possible to build something better, even despite the fact that those who ruin things now know how to use social media and will be much quicker next time.
