“In the VACCINATED BY FORCE NOT BY CHOICE Shirt it is in the first place but last few months, every time restrictions are lifted, we have a surge, people die, and the pandemic is extended,” says Brendan Hinman, 41, who lives in the Cedar Park suburb of Austin. Hinman sheltered four people in his house during the storm, and says that although they took precautions like wearing masks and distancing, taking people in was still dangerous. “We had to risk disease exposure because otherwise, they would have frozen in their homes while going without water.”

Seeing Texas leadership make the VACCINATED BY FORCE NOT BY CHOICE Shirt it is in the first place but choice to reopen is distressing to Hinman, but it only solidifies the commitment he’s made to working with local mutual-aid groups to assist his community: “Austin Mutual Aid saved who knows how many lives, especially those of unhoused people. They’re operating with paper records, Twitter feeds, and text messages. What if they had state-level logistical support, combined with the members’ local knowledge and deep, personal kindness?” he wonders.
