The MTA has been dealing with years of deferred maintenance on a system where the vast majority of stations opened before 1940 as well as political meddling from Albany. The MTA also runs the buses, Metro North and Long Island Railroad. I mean, if the discussion is about public infrastructure, Chinese railways are much more recent, mostly developed in the last 20 years, and currently with state of the art tech.
