Around 20 years ago there was a push for inclusion in education, where children that would normally have attended alternative provision were encouraged to go to mainstream schools instead. Funding was shifted from specialist schools to mainstream schools and there was a push on training all teachers to plan lessons that work for all students. However, there are drawbacks. Although funding and training increased for teachers to help them, some schools just aren’t able to support some students adequately.
